Ride-hailing app Careem has announced it will be offering an on-demand grocery and essentials delivery service through its Careem NOW app across Dubai. The service brings exclusive access to one of Dubai’s leading retailers, Lulu Hypermarket, as well as major grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops and pet stores.

The service enables users to browse all of a store’s items, add them to basket and check out, similar to food delivery services, and promises delivery to doorstep within an hour. The service is set to be the first to streamline deliveries by combining all daily needs into one app, which Careem states offers the fastest delivery time compared to other options.

“Careem’s pledge to assist the community, its partners, customers and Captains during these confusing times is our top priority. This new product launch enables us to further meet the needs of the community, and we are delighted to be able to offer delivery of essentials through our platform in a safe, efficient way to simplify the lives of our users,” said Gheed El Makkaoui, General Manager of Careem UAE in a statement.

Careem also launched similar services across the Middle East, such as a ‘Delivery’ option in Egypt for customers to pick up and deliver all essentials from the nearest supermarket, pharmacy or bakery, as well as their ‘Order Anything’ option in Qatar. In Saudi Arabia, Careem has accelerated its already existing delivery service to also allow Captains to deliver food and vital essentials.
