Egyptian Fintech Fawry Secures $10.8 Million to Expand SME Lending
The financing facility from MSMEDA will help Fawry expand digital lending to smaller businesses across Egypt.
Fawry, Egypt's digital financial services platform, has secured a $10.8 million financing facility for its wholly owned subsidiary, Fawry MSME Finance, from the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) to expand lending for businesses across the country.
The package includes $5.9 million dedicated to microenterprises and $4.9 million for small and medium-sized enterprises. Fawry said the funding will be deployed through its digital lending platform, which uses data-driven credit assessments to provide businesses with faster access to working capital and expansion financing.
Founded in 2008, Fawry provides digital financial services to both banked and unbanked customers and has increasingly expanded its financing offerings to serve Egypt's SME sector.
The agreement aligns with Egypt's broader efforts to improve financial inclusion, encourage informal businesses to formalise their operations and support entrepreneurship under Vision 2030. It also reflects the growing role of fintech companies in extending credit to underserved businesses, complementing MSMEDA's mandate to expand financing opportunities for smaller enterprises across Egypt.
