Film Industry Social Platform Clakett to Introduce New Features Following Flat6Labs Seed Investment
The Cairo-based app has already become a go-to for creatives and production houses alike across Egypt.
Cairo-based startup, Clakett, is en route to exciting new expansions and innovative operations, having closed a seed funding round with Flat6Labs for an undisclosed six-figure sum. Connecting creatives in the film industry with production houses and other entities, the recruitment platform is also participating in a three-month programme with the accelerator.
Coming out of it, Clakett hopes to use the fund to the UX and introduce new services to an app that looks to break down the barriers of an industry that is notoriously difficult to break into. “We’re using the fund towards product development, marketing, and operations,” founder Kamel Karam told Startup Scene. “We want to enhance user experience and introduce new features, including premium services.”
The startup has had a fruitful past few months, securing a partnership with Gemini Africa, an Orascom company, wherein they hold equity in Clackett in exchange for exposure and networking for the startup. The startup is also sponsoring Cairo International Film Festival with a cash prize of $5,000 and premium subscription to Clakett for a year for the recipient of the Cairo Film Connection award.
Among the notable users of Clakett’s app are the producers of Netflix’s Paranormal, Cinegram and Rhino, who are on Clakett to scout talents for their upcoming film, Clinic, as well as being the official recruitment partner for Paranormal star Ahmed Amin’s show, Amin wa Shorakah, who are on the app through scouting for crew members.
