Health 2.0 and HIMSS Networks Plan To Expand To Alexandria

This comes in an effort to rebrand Health 2.0's online assets to Health 2.0 Egypt as opposed to Health 2.0 Cairo.

The Cairene chapter of the global Health 2.0 and HIMSS networks, has announced its expanding its brand into Health 2.0 Egypt as opposed to Health 2.0 Cairo. The movement is also spreading up north, another group of local Egyptian healthcare innovators are on the verge of announcing Health 2.0 Alexandria. Health 2.0 Egypt will be a team of dedicated founders from both chapters supporting projects and maintaining the same quality of Health 2.0 events and data-centric strategy.

“We are a group of healthcare innovators that decided to co-create rather than dictate healthcare innovation. We are building the ecosystem we need to thrive, while we all go about our own hustles," says Omar Shaker , Founder of Health 2.0 Cairo/Egypt, and Senior Data Analyst at Clarity Insights. "Listening to our community has been our main ingredient to creating events that are relevant to the healthcare technology ecosystem in Cairo. We are not a cookie cutter organization, and do not provide the same product over and over again. We are at the heart of a booming and rapidly changing digital health movement in Egypt, so our approach is data-driven and our goal is to provide the network with what it needs at a certain moment in time.”

To address the shortage of developers and technical skills available to doctors who want to improve healthcare with technology, the chapter organised HEALTHACK, Egypt’s first digital health hackathon at KMT House in Maadi. The competition attracted 10 teams of developers, designers and data scientists to build new solutions over three days. There were three tracks and challenge holders: Telemedicine solutions for El Gouna Hospital, Digital Therapeutics for Cleopatra Hospitals and Advanced Analytics for Smart Medical Services.

The chapter then designed Cairo’s largest ever digital health meetup. The meetup, Meiosis, brought together 65 healthcare startups with 21 industry leaders at Falak Startups, in the Greek Campus at Tahrir Square. Meiosis featured a keynote lecture from Dr. Noha Khater, CEO of Al Mokhtabar, and a panel moderated by Mohamed Shehab El Din and featured Shezlong, Mazboot and Curotrip. Selected startups received a total of 40 one-on-one mentorship sessions and 7 topic-focused roundtable discussions.

“The Meiosis event showed us that there is much more to healthcare innovation in Cairo than we imagined. The response was fantastic and this event was special because it wasn’t about a certain topic but about bringing the healthcare tech industry together.” notes Tareq Mandour Meiosis Event Producer, founding member of the chapter and co-founder of Mazboot. “This fits with the chapter’s vision nicely as we aim to support the best and brightest minds of Egypt in healthcare tech by providing a space that is neutral and focused on group innovation rather than old individual company strategies.”

In lieu of this unprecedented demand, the Health 2.0 Egypt Umbrella will be inviting selected Healthcare startups, investors and professionals to join Health 2.0 Memberships which offers them opportunities to get involved and work closer with both local and global communities.

“Health 2.0 Egypt’s prerogative is to become a bridge connecting between healthcare innovators in local governorates, national stakeholders and global resources.” concludes Ayman Sabae, Founder of Shamseya Community Health Solutions and founding member of the Health 2.0 chapter.
