MENA Game Publisher Puplishme Acquired by India’s Nazara Technologies
Nazara will acquire a large chunk of the company with a 69.82% stake through primary and secondary transaction through its subsidiary.
India-based Nazara Technologies--a diversified gaming, gamified learning, and sports media company--will acquire a majority stake in Turkey-based Publishme, the Middle East and North Africa’s largest games marketing and publishing agency, and which also goes by the name of Arrakis Tanitim Organizasyon Pazarlama San. Tic. Ltd.
Nazara will acquire a large chunk of the company with a 69.82% stake of primary and secondary transactions through its subsidiary. Nazara’s services already stretch to India and across several developed and emerging global markets including Africa and North America, but with this new acquisition, Nazara will expand its international reach into the freemium segment and build local execution abilities across several growth segments, primarily gamified learning and e-sports.
Özgür Özalp, Publishme’s CEO, said that "we are delighted to join Nazara and lead the company's foray in the MENA region. MENA is one of the fastest growing gaming markets, with an estimated market size of $4.8bn and has over 160mn gamers in the region (of which 100mn are mobile gamers).”
He continued that the company’s “alliance with Nazara offers a unique blend of network, global reach and local capabilities to further the growth of the gaming industry in the region,” saying that the acquisition allows Publishme to become a full-fledged publisher in the region.
Meanwhile, Nazara’s Founder, Nitish Mittersain, doubled down on the importance of the regional market: "MENA is a key geography for us and this acquisition will help us in establishing ourselves as a key player in the region. We are excited to have someone with deep regional knowledge and capabilities like Özgür and his team join the ‘Friends of Nazara’ network."
Publishme’s entrance into the ‘Friends of Nazara’ network sees it join a handful of established gaming companies in which Nazara holds a majority stake. This impressive portfolio includes Nodwi Gaming, SportsKeeda, Next Wave Multimedia, and Paper Boats Apps.
