The country’s leading startup accelerator, Flat6Labs Cairo, just held its 12th Demo Day for its first cycle of 2019. The event took place at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza where eight new startups, who were filtered from over 1,000 applications, took centre stage and reigned supreme.

“I am proud to witness such bright and passionate entrepreneurs, representing an exquisite display of diversity,” says Ramez El-Serafy, CEO at Flat6Labs Cairo. “We are now excited for Cairo’s Fall 2019 cycle and look forward to welcoming new, innovative and disruptive technologies in Egypt.”

The representatives of each startup performed their pitches before Flat6Labs investors, mentors, top government officials, technology experts and some of the region’s biggest influential figures.

Agrona

Led by Mohamed ElKafafy, the now-entrepreneur decided to leave his post at one of the Gulf’s biggest international steel companies to aspire to help the farming industry by creating Agrona. His startup takes recycled wood or unutilized vegetable crop residues to manufacture particleboards. As the CEO of Agrona, he has helped in reducing the need of cutting forests, which has helped in creating thousands of indirect jobs in rural communities and providing new sources of income for farmers.
