Meet The 8 Egyptian Startups Who Just Graduated from Flat6Labs Cairo's 12th Cycle
From platforms who use virtual reality for therapeutic purposes, to ones that connect students and tutors with one another -- meet the eight startups who are set to disrupt the Egyptian market.
The country’s leading startup accelerator, Flat6Labs Cairo, just held its 12th Demo Day for its first cycle of 2019. The event took place at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza where eight new startups, who were filtered from over 1,000 applications, took centre stage and reigned supreme.
“I am proud to witness such bright and passionate entrepreneurs, representing an exquisite display of diversity,” says Ramez El-Serafy, CEO at Flat6Labs Cairo. “We are now excited for Cairo’s Fall 2019 cycle and look forward to welcoming new, innovative and disruptive technologies in Egypt.”
The representatives of each startup performed their pitches before Flat6Labs investors, mentors, top government officials, technology experts and some of the region’s biggest influential figures.
Agrona
Led by Mohamed ElKafafy, the now-entrepreneur decided to leave his post at one of the Gulf’s biggest international steel companies to aspire to help the farming industry by creating Agrona. His startup takes recycled wood or unutilized vegetable crop residues to manufacture particleboards. As the CEO of Agrona, he has helped in reducing the need of cutting forests, which has helped in creating thousands of indirect jobs in rural communities and providing new sources of income for farmers.
InterAct
In a nutshell, InterAct aims to make all your interactive technology dreams come true by helping users control digital platforms such as Monitors, Virtual Reality, and loT devices. Muhammad Samir, CEO and mastermind behind the tech startup, hopes to increase engagement through enhancing the user’s experience – with the first line of products focusing on being interactive.
Untap
Untap is a submission management system that aspires to make the lives of organisations easier, by managing their online prize-based competitions and calls for applications.
Tyro
Tyro is an online tutoring platform that gives power to the students, simply by offering them live and personalised sessions – be it privately or as part of a group -- by highly qualified instructors.
Elmetr
Elmetr helps customers by connecting them to the most suitable lawyers. Depending on your legal need, the online platform will assist you with their directory of selected lawyers for litigants to go through them and choose the right one for you.
Illa
Illa is a digitally-operated platform that focuses on creating, facilitating and developing the match-making process between truck drives and distributors. Mahmoud El-Zomor, founder and CEO behind the multi-sided startup, specifically designed the two-sided process operations to improve the customer experience on the demand side, while investing in the development of the supply-side to reach the highest quality of service.
Instadiet
Using his 12 years of technical, business development, strategy consulting and previous startup experiences, Ahmed Tawfic went on to launch Instadiet. The platform uses technology to help dieters in solving challenges they wouldn’t necessarily know how to solve by themselves. Instadiet is also the first startup of its kind in the region as it focuses on clients from Egypt and the Gulf.
VRapeutic
Much like its name suggests, VRapeutic uses virtual reality – with the supervision of therapists – for therapeutic purposes, with a current focus on autism, ADHD, and cerebral palsy.
