Tyro, an Egyptian edutech platform that gives students access to qualified tutors for one-on-one or group sessions, is acquiring Nafham, an Egyptian startup that provides free crowdsourced educational content. Under the share-swap agreement, Tyro will take over Nafham's management and operations, and will serve as the overall holding company, enhancing the customer experience for Nafham's 6 million users while continuing to operate their live tutoring services.

“Both companies joining forces will technically make us the largest Edutech platform in the MENA region providing both, live online tutoring as well as recorded educational video content,” says CEO of Tyro, Mokhtar Osman. “It is crucial to capitalize on both the technology capabilities, and a solid customer base, to be successful. With this merger, we are well-positioned to take the platform to the next level.”

With a focus on k-12 school curricula in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Nafham is one of the largest educational platforms in the Middle East; their online content has earned them over 150 million views overall.

Similarly, Tyro operates in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and has provided over 50,000 paid sessions for thousands of students since their founding in 2017.
