UAE Fresh Fruit Delivery Startup Fruitful Day Raises $817,000 Through Crowdfunding
With the increased need for delivery-based services, Fruitful Day is aiming for big things following an important period amidst the pandemic.
There really is nothing like getting fresh and healthy food delivered right to your door - something that takes the effort out of what many consider a chore. It’s also something that UAE-based startup, Fruitful Day, is working to change. Founded in 2015 by Marie-Christine Luijckx, Yael Mejia, Lyla Rawi and Lindsey Fournie, the direct-to-consumer platform offering fresh and healthy food and snacks have just secured $817,000 (Dh 3 million) through the use of Eureeca, an equity crowdfunding platform.
"We are extremely proud to welcome such a diverse array of new investors to Fruitful Day,” said said Managing partner, Marie-Christine Luijckx. “Investors were attracted by the strength of the brand and the resilience of the business to COVID-19, as we were able to significantly grow our home segment and introduce new products to our customers. Despite the obvious headwinds we have been able to maintain our growth story.”
While many startups were forced to adjust and pivot to survive the pandemic, Fruitful Day saw an opportunity to drive home their services when UAE needed it most, quickly adjusting from B2B to B2C.
"Working with Marie-Christine and the rest of the Fruitful Day team was a real pleasure,” Siddarth Dalamal, head of investor relations at Eureeca, revealed. “It was particularly insightful to be conducting the raise whilst the pandemic started, as we were able to see how quickly the team were able to react and switch their focus from B2B to B2C home deliveries. By delivering record numbers throughout a very difficult period, they showed their mettle and won investor confidence, causing the round to be oversubscribed,”
Beyond delivering fresh produce in the form of platters, boxes and cakes (the latter made completely out of fruit), the startup recently launched its own brand of vegan ice-pops, potentially signalling new product offerings.
