Egypt Rises Five Places in Global Entrepreneurship Index

Egypt has climbed five places in the Global Entrepreneurship Index, ranking 35th out of 53 economies for 2025/2026, according to the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC).

The latest edition of the index, published by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, places Egypt ahead of its previous ranking of 40th in 2024/2025. The IDSC attributed the improvement to advances in startup financing, infrastructure and cultural support for entrepreneurship.

The index evaluates entrepreneurial environments across 53 economies using 13 sub-indicators. The findings were published as part of the IDSC's 'Egypt in International Indicators: From Challenges to Achievements' series.

The report also highlighted national initiatives aimed at strengthening the country's startup ecosystem, including the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's Creativa initiative, which focuses on equipping young people with technology skills aligned with labour market needs.

It also referenced the establishment of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship under Prime Ministerial Decree No. 2878, a framework designed to strengthen startup capabilities, support the transition towards a knowledge-based economy and create high-quality employment opportunities.

Separately, the IDSC noted that Egypt has advanced around 16 places over the past six years in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index, reaching 65th out of 118 countries in the 2026 rankings. The report added that Cairo remains one of North Africa's leading startup hubs, with an estimated startup density of around four companies per 100,000 people and at least one startup valued at more than $1 billion.
