Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris will be conferred the title of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy in Cairo on April 9th, 2026.

The distinction, one of Italy’s highest civilian honours, will be presented by Agostino Palese, Ambassador of Italy to Egypt, at his residence.

The award recognises Sawiris’ contributions to strengthening economic, industrial and social ties between Egypt and Italy, alongside his broader role in promoting international cooperation.

“It is a great honour to receive this distinguished recognition from the Italian Republic,” said Sawiris. “Italy has long been a valued partner to Egypt, and I am proud to have contributed, in my own way, to strengthening the ties between our two countries. I believe there remains significant opportunity to further deepen this relationship across investment, culture, and shared development goals.”

Sawiris has previously received several international honours, including the “Star of Italian Solidarity” in 2011 for his role in supporting Egyptian investment in Italy, as well as France’s Légion d’Honneur, where he holds the rank of Commander.

He was also awarded the Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam in 2006 for contributions to telecommunications and investment, and received an honorary Doctorate of Law from Handong Global University in 2021.

The Order of the Star of Italy is awarded to individuals who have made notable contributions to fostering friendship and cooperation between Italy and other nations.
