AUC Encourages Local Startups Through "Made In Egypt" Exhibition

Striving to support and boost the local economy, the American University in Cairo is gathering over 45 businesses in an exhibition to showcase their products and services to students and promote local startups.

Let's not talk in complicated economic-terminology, but encouraging domestic production and local services in Egypt are key ingredients in the growth of its entrepreneurial ecosystem. These rising entrepreneurs add to the overall employment levels, create social change and in many times, develop the overall community with their businesses.

Inspired by that premise, the American University in Cairo's Entrepreneurs' Society - a student led organisation promoting entrepreneurship - in collaboration with AUC's Office of Advancement and Communications are launching the very first "Made In Egypt" event. This exhibition-like event aims to encourage the purchase of local production, expose these businesses to the AUC community and empower Egyptian entrepreneurs.

Happening on the 20th of November in the vast Library Gardens, located on AUC New Cairo's premises, this event is gathering over 45 businesses in a wide range of industries to showcase their products and services to the youth. Complemented with unrevealed entertainment guests, the exhibition will take form of a lively celebration of Egyptian entrepreneurs. "Sometimes Egyptian businesses need exposure, but this comes at great costs," Jenny El Boushy, CEO of Entrepreneurs' Society claims, "yet we are giving them the opportunity to reach out to a large audience for a minimal price," she continues.

"As AUC is keen on supporting the new initiative, From Today's Egypt, we encourage both AUC and non-AUC alumni and students to be a part of this event to promote Egyptian businesses," Manar Ayoub, Director of Alumni Engagement tells us. But that's not all, a workshop by Franchisingate will be held in the Alumni Lounge in the afternoon to highlight the positive impact of franchising on a Business Model. Ultimately, the workshop will be a match-making platform that brings together franchisors and franchisees.
