SIGMA Fit: The Trailblazing Tech Startup Driving the Evolution of Sportswear
We sit down with the rowdy, co-founding trio of SIGMA Fit to find out more about a rollercoaster journey filled with rural housewives, criminal roommates and part-time Uber driving.
"WE ARE NOT JUST A CLOTHING BRAND." The message from Egyptian/American startup, @sigmafitegypt, is clear. From t-shirts, to leggings, to bags, SIGMA Fit's goods aren't your run-of-the-mill sportswear. They're designed to protect, enhance and ultimately take your wardrobe into the future - a future that could witness the first real advance in clothing for centuries.
Launched by Omar El Metwally, Islam Rashwan and Nabil Khalifa in 2017, SIGMA Fit has emerged as one of the most unique startups in MENA for utilising hydrophobic tecnologies, ultra-violet rays, ozone and more in its techwear.
In the four years since taking their first steps, the founding trio have racked up plenty of accolades. They were named one of the top 10 businesses worldwide at the 2020 edition of the world's biggest tech trade show, CES, in Las Vegas, where they showcased their revolutionary Transforma X Smart Bag. They have a partnership with Chicago Sports and Social Club, which sees them provide their techwear to its 100,000-plus members. They even utilised their tech to create Egypt’s first, state-sanctioned, fully-protective suit for medical personnel in COVID-19 isolation hospitals.
These achievements speak well of the startup and its three co-founders, but they don’t tell the whole story. We sat down with El Metwally, Islam and Nabil to find out more about a rollercoaster journey filled with rural housewives, criminal roommates and part-time Uber driving...
