Moroccan Startup Nextronic Develops First Locally-Made Infrared Thermometer

As part of the ongoing efforts to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, Moroccan startup Nextronic has developed the North African country’s very first locally-made infrared thermometer. The engineering team proposed their design to the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, which has agreed to support their project, which currently produces up to one thousand pieces per week.

The thermometers are in line with international standards and will be made available for a competitive price, as opposed to the imported thermometers currently sold for much higher price points.

Minister of Industry, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, said after the product presentation that the small tools have an extreme utility and that the ministry is “totally mobilised by [Nextronic’s] side so that the project moves forward.” He went on to encourage other Moroccans to innovate, assuring them that the state prioritises support for local products of high quality.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, most Morcoccan industrial efforts to fight the spread of Coronavirus come from the textile industry which are producing face masks, head caps, and shoe covers, making Nextronic’s breakthrough an important addition to the mix.
