The lab is the first platform of its kind in the country, and is already experimenting on novel innovations to help industries adapt to the COVID-19 outbreak.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has inaugurated Dubai Future Labs (DFL), the first research and development platform of its kind in the UAE, that hopes to put the country on the map as a global player in the tech industry. The labs are under the supervision of the Dubai Future Foundation - a holistic initiative that strives for the betterment of the UAE’s future in several aspects.

The tech hub will strengthen the UAE’s knowledge-based economy by becoming a dedicated entity focused on future endeavours in a myriad of sectors, and joining forces with industry heavyweights to create great leaps in future technology research, prototyping, business modeling and deploying technological solutions in the UAE and the region.

The lab will be based in Dubai’s AREA 2017 in the Dubai Future District which houses several state-of-the-art research centres, incubator and accelerators, serving as the UAE’s version of Silicon Valley.

The lab’s inception came at a time when innovation is much-needed: with several industries such as e-commerce, tech and logistics among many others pivoting their landscapes to accommodate the pandemic, smart solutions are in high demand. Some of the DFL’s experiments already involve utilising A.I, drone technology, autonomous ground vehicles and other cutting-edge shipping and storage solutions.
