Amazon Home Services Launches in UAE

Amazon Home Services, an online marketplace that offers on-demand home services such as pet grooming, appliance assembly, electronics repair and house cleaning among others, has just launched in the UAE, available through Amazon’s website.

The service will replace Helpbit, a home services marketplace by Amazon subsidiary Souq, that has been operating in the country since 2016 as an independent portal offering similar home services. A year ago, Souq was officially rebranded as Amazon.ae, with the same move echoed in Saudi this year with Amazon.sa.

The rebranding will meld the on-demand home services into Amazon’s ecosystem, allowing users in the UAE to add an installation service when ordering sports equipment or electronics from Amazon. The services are all offered under fixed hourly prices. The service allows users to browse different providers to pick the one most convenient to their area and select based on price. 

While Amazon expects a large user base to use the service, there is already some competition that’ll be met from similar service providers, including local startups such as Abu Dhabi-based Rizek, who recently raised one of the largest seed rounds ($3.5 million) in the MENA region.

Amazon Home Services is now available in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
