Egypt’s Digital Supply Chain Suplyd Raises $1.6M in Pre-Seed Round
The new funding will be used to scale its technology, grow the team, and expand across Egypt.
Suplyd, an Egypt-based procurement platform for the hotels, restaurants, and catering (HORECA) industry, has raised $1.6 million in a pre-Seed round led by Endure Capital, Seedstars, Camel Ventures, Falak, Outlierz, Plus Ventures, Alex Angels, and Fort, with participation from several strategic angel investors. Founded in 2022 by Gohar Said, Karim Selima, and Ahmed ElMahdy, Suplyd digitises the supply chain operations for the food business sector to create efficiency and seamless operations with regards to procurement, payment, and orders. Through the platform, restaurants can access products conveniently, and at competitive prices without needing to go offline. “I have been in the restaurant industry for almost 12 years, and the supply chain is a nightmare for most of the operators,” Gohar Said, CEO of Suplyd, tells StartupScene. “To make up for all the inefficiencies, you are always forced to either accept the fact that some of your menu items are not available or procure your requirements from the nearest market at a higher cost. After opening my restaurant in early 2021, I talked with Karim and Mahdy, and all it took was one simple question: what if technology took over?” The startup streamlines the ordering process of supplies, enabling restaurants to access a wide range of stock keeping units, payment solutions, and a simplified delivery process. Using its tech-enabled fulfilment centres, the startup is also able to offer suppliers real-time analytics and actionable insights concerning demand patterns and trends, which helps minimise waste and ensures restaurant supplies needs are fulfilled on demand. To date, Suplyd serves 500 customers in greater Cairo, growing by about 50% MoM since its launch, the startup claims. The new funding will be used to scale its technology, grow the team, and expand across Egypt.
