Isomorphic Labs, a London-based biotechnology company that uses artificial intelligence to accelerate drug discovery and therapeutic development, has raised $2.1 billion in a Series B funding round led by Thrive Capital, with participation from Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX.

The investment syndicate also included Alphabet, GV, Temasek, CapitalG, and the UK Sovereign AI Fund.

Founded in 2021 by Demis Hassabis, the company describes itself as an AI-first drug design and development firm focused on accelerating pharmaceutical discovery across multiple therapeutic areas.

According to the company, the new capital will be used to expand its AI drug design engine, IsoDDE, alongside recruitment across artificial intelligence, engineering, drug design, and clinical research teams.

The funding will also support the advancement of therapeutic programmes toward clinical development stages.

In a statement, Hassabis said the investment would help scale the company’s drug discovery systems and support its long-term objective of accelerating treatment development through artificial intelligence.

MGX’s participation adds a Gulf-based investor to the funding round as Middle Eastern investment groups continue expanding exposure to global AI and biotechnology sectors.
