UAE-Based Play:Date Secures $250K in Funding

Connecting kids to help develop their social skills, female-led startup Play:Date has secured $250,000 from Modus Capital.

Staff Writer

UAE-based startup Play:Date has announced that they’ve secured $250,000 in funding from hybrid venture capital firm Modus Capital. The female-led startup is an interactive platform where parents can start to build a social circle for their little ones, as well as receive discounts and deals on children’s products.

As well as helping parents set up playdates for their kids, the app also helps families find discount deals, complimentary events and new products, in addition to allowing them to engage with one another based on the shared interests of their children. Play:Date also hosts regular playdate tours in play areas, which have been held virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The raised funds will go towards expanding Play:Date’s presence in the Middle East, but Modus Capital will also be helping the platform in tech support, management, investor relations, and leadership support.

“We decided to work with Modus Capital as they are not your typical venture capitalists that are solely focused on investing, instead they actively assist entrepreneurs by supporting strategies and high-growth prospects. Additionally, we required a firm that had a presence not only in the region but also in the US, as it is currently our biggest market outside the UAE,” Shamim Kassibawi, Founder and CEO of Play:Date says.

The app is available on iOS and Android, and has been undergoing testing and development for three years in the UAE and USA
