AWS Extends Generative AI Capabilities to Bahrain with Amazon Bedrock
The rollout with the Information & eGovernment Authority aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and public-sector digitisation.
Amazon Web Services, the cloud computing arm of Amazon, has launched Amazon Bedrock in Bahrain in partnership with the country's Information & eGovernment Authority, integrating the service into the government AWS cloud to give entities early access to generative AI models.
The authority’s Chief Executive Mohamed Ali Al Qaed said the launch supports Bahrain’s efforts in technology and smart governance.
“This initiative aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and the National AI Policy, while adhering to the highest standards of data protection and privacy,” Al Qaed said in a statement. “The service will enable public and private entities to benefit from secure, ready-to-use models that support the development of innovative generative AI solutions. These will help boost operational efficiency and improve service quality, especially in Arabic, with a high level of accuracy,” he added.
According to iGA, Bedrock will simplify adoption by providing access within the government cloud. AWS offers on-demand cloud platforms and APIs spanning networking, compute, storage, middleware, IoT and software tools. The authority said Bedrock allows organisations to use the latest generative AI models to analyse data, generate content and power virtual assistants without complex infrastructure.
“This development will support the capabilities of the iGA Innovation Lab by enabling it to test and develop new AI models responsibly, supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation journey and opening new opportunities for innovation across multiple sectors,” Al Qaed explained.
The partnership is based on AWS’s global cloud expertise and standards for security, reliability and scalability, and is expected to enhance service delivery and support AI-driven innovation. iGA said the offering is designed to improve government performance, strengthen institutional innovation, support decision-making and expand AI across national digital initiatives, reinforcing Bahrain’s position in digital transformation and its commitment to responsible AI for citizens, residents and businesses.
