Dubai Opens Government Payments to Global Digital Wallets

The Dubai Department of Finance has added global wallets across government services, with plans to extend the system across the UAE.

The Dubai Department of Finance is expanding how residents, businesses and tourists pay government fees, enabling global digital wallets across all Government of Dubai entities. With a commercial rollout scheduled before the end of 2025 through DubaiPay and the DubaiNow app, plans are afoot to to extend the system across the UAE.

Under the update, government fees can be settled via Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, WeChat Pay, RuPay, and Diners, with support for India’s UPI, Soft POS, and Tap to Pay services. The move has been described by the Dubai Department of Finance a watershed moment in the emirate's push for a cashless government and a step to improve transparency in public services.

The expansion is apart of the Dubai Cashless Strategy, which targets reducing cash-based transactions to less than 10% by the end of 2026.
