8 Opportunities To Look Out For This October

While the UAE gears up for this year's Fintech Summit, Cairo will be bustling with exhibitions, festivals, and workshops.

The weather's getting cooler in the Middle East. It's not like summer season ever means break season in the startup ecosystem, but school season is in and that always hypes up events and workshops a bit, leading up to Rise Up and other mega expos in the Middle East as we inch closer to 2019.

This month is coincidentally dedicated to the financial science behind startups; from payment options to the methodology of monetisation. Here are eight events, workshops and festivals to mark your calendars with.

1. Science and Economy - October 11th

Renowned Egyptian economist and general director of Multiples Group, Omar El-Shenety is giving a seminar on how startups can use every science and knowledge they encounter to enhance the economical state as a community.

At New Cairo's American University in Cairo, Marry Cross Hall at 6 PM, El-Shenety will provoke thoughts and tickle reservations. The event is also preparing a fair full of different startups talking about their experiences.

2. Supernova - October 15th

Supernova is an annual, day-long festival taking place in Cairo, celebrating the journey of innovators, from ideation to development and up until market launch and growth. Supernova aims to create a platform for innovators across different stages of their paths to connect with industry experts, local and international investors, potential partners and media.

"We started this festival with the vision of gathering our collective experiences and networks to celebrate the ecosystem that we’ve built over the years," their website states. Supernova wants to represent the changing point where innovative ideas are transformed into impactful projects. At Hilton Cairo Heliopolis (which was formerly Fairmont), the event will feature product demos, exhibitions, inspirational talks and an exclusive pitch competition.

3. Flat6Labs Cairo's Business Networking Event - October 16th and 17th

The following day, Flat6Labs Cairo is gathering over 25 startups at Acacia, Four Seasons First Residence Cairo. "The day will be made up of three different sessions, with each session lasting 1.5 hours," Flat6Labs' Community Manager Sara Abdel Azim tells Startup Scene. A company can choose to reserve a table for one, or two, complete sessions to meet startups from both our Cairo and Beirut offices. "We have around 30 corporates confirmed so far, and 28 of our own startups including one flying in from Beirut," Abdel Azim adds.

This event is invite only.

4. Understanding your payment options - October 18th

Next day, a workshop - also in Cairo - will break payment options to startups at Geek Squad in Dokki. In cooperation with PayMe, the workshop is designed for entrepreneurs who have their own startups or still working on them to help them build the best payment system through choosing the most convenient payment method to their startup.

The workshop splits into five chapters: What is the payment? Why payment tools are important for any business? Different payment options. Details of every payment option. Comparison summary. Smart solutions appear every day promising to make things easier with more opportunities using less effort. While in fact, the smarter the solutions, the more challenges it causes to businesses. Those who make it are the ones who benefit from any challenges. The success and expansion of any startup starts to depend on how easily their payment options are to the customers to get their product/service anytime anywhere.
