The online medical diagnosis service has big plans for its late funding round, as it looks to transform its diagnosis system.

Casablanca-based MedTech platform, DataPathology, has successfully raised $232,000 in its latest funding round led by investment firm WitamaxOne.

Founded in 2020 by Pathologist Dr. Hicham El Attar and partner Mohammed El Khannoussi, DataPathology administers remote pathology consultation to its customer base, after its founders set out to provide a service which combats the lack and delay of diagnosis for cancer patients in medically underserved countries. The Morocco-based team aspires to deliver pathological diagnoses both swiftly and securely in a process that involves carrying out biopsy followed by scanning and transferring digital patient information in a secure and anonymous way to its medical team.

Jointly backed by Southbridge A&I and AXXAM Family Office, WitamaxOne’s investment goes against the grain regarding current VC funding trends. In H1 2021, there was a 30% YoY dip in VC financing invested in the Healthcare sector.

DataPathology will deploy its newly acquired funds towards the transformation of its pathological diagnosis systems while improving the services provided to patients and practitioners. Through a network of renowned Moroccan and international pathologists, its team will continue to build partnerships with key players in the Digital Pathology market including Scanner, image processing and AI businesses.
