With gyms and sporting facilities at limited capacities, innovation in sports is experiencing a boom. With that in mind, Qatar SportsTech (QST) - a highly coveted incubator for innovation in sports technology in the region - have added EntaleQ to their schedule; a pre-accelerator programme that preps small startups with big ideas ahead of the fourth cohort of their main acceleration programme.

Whether you have a well-thought out idea or a preliminary prototype, both individuals and teams residing in Qatar are eligible to apply to the four thematic tracks under QST’s main pillars: Athlete and Team, Fan and Viewer;,Mega Sports Events and E-Sports. “This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to develop the local entrepreneurial ecosystem by developing the start-up, onboarding mentors, and creating an investor community. We look forward to engaging with other local entities as we transform the sports industry,” explains Heba Almasri, Managing Director at QST.

Applications are open now and will run until October 30th, 2020, after which 10 startups will be selected to take part the EntaleQ 12-week programme, comprising guest lectures, specialised workshops, one-on-one coaching and mentorship from industry leaders from across the world.

QST is a powerhouse in the MENA regions’ fledgling SportsTech industry, and was initiated by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), powered by Startupbootcamp, and supported by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, beIN Media Group, Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), and Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

The global SportsTech market is set to be worth over $31 billion by 2024, according to market research agency, MarketsAndMarkets. While the MENA region’s SportsTech industry is still in relative infancy, entrepreneurs have capitalised on the increased interest in health and fitness outside of the traditional sports arenas and workout spaces since the beginning of the global Coronavirus pandemic.
