Mona Hamdy Appointed As Middle East's Ambassador of Global Blockchain Business Council
The newly appointed ambassador tells us about the missions she has on top of her priorities.
The Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), the leading industry association for the blockchain technology ecosystem, announced the appointment of its 2020 regional ambassadors; one of whom is Mona Hamdy, the ambassador of the Middle East.
Hamdy is a teaching fellow in Harvard's school of Applied Ethics, member of MIT Tech Review Global Council, and also one of the co-founders of Al-Baydha Project, alleviating poverty in rural Saudi Arabia. "I believe in the region’s ability to develop and lead," she tells Startup Scene. "Given the ambitious commitments of the Egyptian government and higher education institutions in developing robust science and technology sectors within the nation, I am particularly optimistic about Egypt’s future as a leader and innovator in 4IR tech, especially blockchain."
The Council's regional ambassadors are a group of innovators who hail from diverse backgrounds and industries – with an emphasis in the fields of technology, entrepreneurship, government, law, finance, environmental sustainability, social impact, and education. To accelerate blockchain maturity in the region, Hamdy has four priorities; establishing blockchain education and talent pipelines in universities; creating mentoring and funding opportunities for local blockchain startups within regional markets; providing resources and guidance on optimum regulatory policy framework and best practices to public and private sector; developing use and application of blockchain in security, infrastructure, and sustainability solutions.
Since the GBBC’s founding in 2017, the GBBC ambassadors have been an integral foundation for the Swiss non-profit’s three pillars: education, advocacy, and partnership. The 80 regional ambassadors span six continents, 52 countries and territories, and includes one subject matter expert in the field of Arts and Music. This new cohort of 2020 regional ambassadors will be key to advancing the GBBC’s mission to further adoption of blockchain technology by engaging and educating regulators, business leaders, and lawmakers on how to harness this groundbreaking technology to create more secure, equitable, and functional societies.
