The initiative will be expanding to more offices in upcoming phases.
VFS, the world’s biggest visa outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions is embarking on a key environmental initiative by going plastic-free in their Dubai office. The initiative is expected to reduce plastic usage by over 50,000 plastic bottles.
The centre in question is located at Wafi Mall in Dubai, and in their next phase of the project VFS Global will be implementing the same initiative in their Abu Dhabi office as well. “Our first plastic bottle-free Visa Application Centre in Dubai is just the beginning. In 2020, we aim to develop an action plan, with targets to reduce our building emissions in a systematic and measurable way," says Peter Brun, the Chief Communications Officer at VFS Global. "We will explore purchasing renewable power for visa applications centres and offices and we will complement our long-standing commitment to offsetting our business travel.”
As a replacement to the plastic products, they will be using biodegradable paper cups and water dispensers which have been tested by the Dubai Municipality to replace the plastic water bottles. By decreasing plastic pollution rate, they hope to minimise the threat to natural resources that congest the environment and reduce the carbon footprint left by their visitors and employees.
