UAE-Based Food Distributor NTRC Acquires One of Egypt’s Largest Farms
Approximately 70% of Al Hashemeya’s land is currently cultivated with citrus, mangoes, grapes, dates, olives, wheat, and sugar beet.

UAE-based food distributor NRTC has acquired Al Hashemeya Farms, one of Egypt’s largest private agricultural estates, in a strategic move to enhance food security and control over its supply chain across the Gulf. The farm spans 10,000 acres in Wadi El Natrun and produces up to 70,000 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables annually.
The acquisition marks NRTC’s first direct venture into upstream agriculture. Previously focused on sourcing and distributing produce, the company now gains control over primary production, allowing for improved quality assurance, crop planning, and operational efficiency.
Approximately 70% of Al Hashemeya’s land is currently cultivated with citrus, mangoes, grapes, dates, olives, wheat, and sugar beet. The estate is equipped with centre-pivot irrigation systems and solar-powered infrastructure, and is home to over two million fruit trees.
NRTC stated that the purchase aligns with its long-term strategy to expand operations into climate-resilient farming, particularly in Egypt and other parts of Africa. The company plans to scale this model further to support growing regional demand and reduce reliance on external suppliers.
The move comes amid broader Gulf efforts to reinforce food security through agricultural investment and vertical integration across supply chains.
