2021 African App Launchpad Cup Winners Have Been Announced

245 startups hailing from 15 African countries applied with 50 making it to the first qualifying round and only 28 reaching the final.

Riding the momentum of the African technology boom, the African App Launchpad Cup wrapped up its third edition, extending its support for pioneering African tech startups that have the potential to transform the country’s technological landscape with their innovative ideas. Six startups clinched the top three spots in the competition’s two tracks: App Development and Game Development, going home with a total cash prize of $48,000. Finalists who didn’t make the cut were awarded $1,000 each.

245 startups hailing from 15 African countries applied with 50 making it to the first qualifying round and only 28 reaching the final. Cameroon’s Africa Innovation Technology Group won first place in the App Development Track with Ghana’s Boxconn Technologies and Qme from Egypt sharing the second place spot and Egypt-based Arete coming in third. For the Game Development Track, Dimension11 from Nigeria snagged first place followed by South Africa’s Alkemiza. 

ITIDA, the executive arm of the Egyptian Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT) joined forces with IBM for this year’s edition of the African App Launchpad Cup to empower African tech startups focused on digital applications and game development. The competition falls under the ‘African App Launchpad’ presidential initiative aimed at developing the tech skills and knowledge of 10,000 African youth. IBM will offer its hybrid cloud strategy to startups and next-gen developer communities, giving them access to its enviable data and AI innovations.
