OpenAI in Talks With Abu Dhabi’s MGX to Fund New AI Processors
Shortly after introducing Sora, its AI video generator, OpenAI is moving away from an over-reliance on NVIDIA’s chips by creating its own.
OpenAI, a leading force in AI technology, is in talks with an Abu Dhabi investment company to begin production of its own processors. A recent report reveals that the creator of ChatGPT is in discussions with MGX, an AI-focused fund that recently launched with the UAE’s national security adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan at the helm, to finance its proprietary AI chips and reduce their reliance on NVIDIA’s chips, signaling a significant financial commitment estimated to span hundreds of billions of dollars over the coming years.
The potential collaboration with MGX aligns with both OpenAI's goal for technological independence and the United Arab Emirates' ambition to become a prominent figure in the AI industry. The partnership aims to establish Abu Dhabi as a central hub for this AI strategy, engaging with global partners worldwide. This strategic move follows OpenAI's successful ChatGPT model and the recent introduction of Sora, an AI video generator, as the company continues to strengthen its position as a formidable force in the AI landscape.
