UAE Firms Free to Work Remotely Even After Pandemic Is Over

“The remote system will help create new job opportunities and also help in maintaining work-life balance.”

Staff Writer

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has said that the remote working system, currently in place due to the coronavirus lockdown, can continue to be in force even after the pandemic is over.

“The remote system will help create new job opportunities and also help in maintaining work-life balance,” it wrote in its most recent circular to ministries and federal entities, with the decision to implement the system at the discretion of departments and entities.

Long-term proponents of remote work have cited the fact that much of the global workforce has been capable of immediately shifting in the face of COVID-19 to say that it has always been an option, particularly in offering flexibility for those who need it, including working mothers and persons with disabilities. With projections of social distancing continuing into 2021 (with varying degrees across countries and sectors), many companies are studying the possibility of the complete ‘virtualisation of business life’.
