Abou Hashima’s Startup Power Competition Moves Online During Coronavirus Pandemic

Startup Power will select 30 finalists to fund and mentor - remotely - as the steel magnate’s competition continues digitally.

Announced in March, steel magnate Ahmed Abou Hashima’s Startup Power competition has moved online and the application deadline has been extended from 30th April to 7th May, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The first stage of the Startup Power competition will see 100 Egyptian startups selected to move onto a round of training and seminars, which will be hosted online on Startup Power’s YouTube account.

The second round will see 60 of 100 finalists move forward to the next stage where they will receive more specialised training in business development and pitching, as well as mentoring from a panel of experts, depending on the industry each startup operates in.

Finally, 30 finalists will be selected as winners, with a total of EGP 2 million invested across them all. First place will go home with EGP 250,000, second place will take EGP 200,000, third will cash in EGP 150,000, fourth place gets EGP 125,000 and fifth place will take EGP 100,000. The remaining 25 finalists will each get EGP 50,000 to start their projects.

“I hope that all the finalists present something out-of-the-box, environmentally friendly and will benefit Egypt,” says Ahmed Abou Hashima in a video encouraging entries.
