Kuwaiti EdTech Baims Acquires Iraq’s Medical Ed Startup MedMasters
With its second strategic acquisition, the MENA-based education technology group has officially entered the Iraqi market and the medical education space.
Baims, an education technology company in the MENA region, has announced the acquisition of MedMasters, an Iraqi online marketplace for medical education. The transaction marks Baims’ second strategic acquisition, as well as its official entry into the Iraqi market.
“The medical education space is huge, and we wanted to acquire a company that adds this vertical to our portfolio,” Hossam Taher, Chief Strategy Officer at Baims, told StartupScene. “Iraq is an untapped market with a very young population that spends hugely on education out-of-pocket, and MedMasters were able to crack distribution in medical school communities. We’re very excited to replicate MedMasters across the entire Arab world.”
MedMasters was founded by medical doctors in Iraq and succeeding in building a mobile-first platform serving thousands of medical students across the country. While Baims serves students through a combination of recorded courses and personalized 1-to-1 tutoring solutions through its tutoring platform, this acquisition will mark their first foray into medical education. Operating across Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and the United Kingdom, Baims supports both university and high school students with structured, technology-enabled learning experiences.
“We’re always looking at companies that could add new markets and new education verticals, either in terms of the customer segments served or the product delivery,” says Taher.
With two strategic acquisitions now completed, Baims continues to execute on its long-term vision of becoming the leading multi-vertical education platform in the Middle East, connecting students and educators across borders through technology.
