Staff Writer

Aiming to empower young entrepreneurs from the developing world, the Westerwelle Young Founders Programme has opened applications for its latest edition, as it seeks to connect young innovators from around the world and offer tailored mentoring to each entrepreneur’s individual challenge.

The programme will have a digital kick off conference from March 1 – March 5, 2021. In the following 6 months, the founders will work on developing and building their companies through the support of a personal mentor. The top ten startups will be selected and asked to attend a week-long Young Founder Conference in Berlin the fall of 2021. There, they will have the opportunity to pitch in front of investors, participate in networking events and get a better understanding of the German startup ecosystem.

The programme has four key requirements for those interested in applying:

-Applicants must you have recently (in the last 5 years) started a for-profit company with a scalable business model that has achieved 'product market fit' and has ideally secured first external funding (if you run a business model that requires external investment).

-Applicants' company must be based in a developing or emerging country, or has a strong business focus on developing and emerging economies.

-Applicants must possess a good working knowledge of English.

-Applicants must be available to attend the digital kick-off conference and can make time to participate in monthly mentoring and peer mentoring calls for the six-month programme.
