According to Mckinsey Global Institute, 60 percent of the cities that human beings and other living creatures will need in 30 years, don’t exist today. This is the main factor that made Moetaz Helmy launch Rollo 21; an accreditation program awarded to university projects and early-stage startups that solve city challenges. Rollo 21 just announced a call for applicants who work on solutions for urban issues regarding energy, water, transportation, connectivity, food, healthcare, and fintech. Applications close on June 28th

Applicants will enjoy a three-month programme of capacity building, co-working spaces, mentorship, access to finance, and finally a demo day. In order for a startup to be eligible for Rollo 21, it needs to solve real problems in cities using local innovation or technology. The solution can be a project, product, service, or device. It can be a stand-alone project, graduation project or early-stage startup. Like pretty much most programmes, the applying projects must have a clear and scalable business model. Even though Rollo 21 are looking for early-stage startups, they need to be developed and tested before the Rollo 21 Summit. It has to create job opportunities and the team members have to be entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 35.

Each year, Rollo 21 opens its doors for innovations and the preselected entrepreneurs who help to enhance their cities. During the summit, selected teams will have the chance to present their prototypes to corporations and meet with top business leaders and decision-makers from different cities. In addition, the selected teams will be accredited by Rollo 21 which will help put their projects on the maps for governments, city administrations and the private sector.
