Iraqi startups Tedallal and LeftSaver have just won the Startup Roadshow semi-finals in Erbil, held at Re:Coded House on September 19th. Both the startups, who are led by Syrian entrepreneurs based in Erbil, are now on the road to the finals of the Startup Roadshow, the world’s first-ever competition for Syrian entrepreneurs in the Middle East.
The entrepreneurial competition, organized by Jusoor and SPARK in partnership withStartups Without Borders, is running its second edition with the finalist startups becoming a tiny step closer to winning up to $15,000 at the finale event held in Amman where three winning startups will be crowned and get the opportunity for an all-expense paid trip to Amsterdam, to pitch at the SPARK Ignite Conference next November.
The pitching competition was the conclusion of 5 intensive days of bootcamp held in Re:Coded House, where the participating entrepreneurs received extensive training in a variety of core subjects such as business modelling, customer validation, digital marketing and pitching.
The two startups that came on top include Tedallal, which is a platform that connects two people in the same neighborhood to pool grocery shopping, tapping into the sharing economy to allow users to save up on time and expenses. On the other hand, LeftSaver is a startup that offers a service which leverages Artificial Intelligence to reduce waste.
“Leftsaver is a smart recycle bin that helps chefs to capture, track, and manage food waste to reduce food waste and increase their profit. We take great pride in being winners at the Startup Roadshow; we became closer to achieve our goal toward establishing a startup that battles food waste in the hospitality industry,” says Mohammad Al Mdfaa, co-founder of LeftSaver.
“Participating in the Startup Roadshow competition - meeting a trainer, the mentors and teams was a great experience for us. The competition has been hard, so we felt proud when we were qualified to the final round. We are determined to achieve the goals and the vision for our startup,”says Sana Ramadan, co-founder of Tedallal.
The roadshow is currently in Gaziantep, where 20 selected startups are working on their business and competing to reach the finals. Next up is Istanbul and Amman, where 40 other startup teams will pitch, competing for the chance to battle it out at the finals in Amman, for cash prizes of $15.000, while the second and third place winners will receive 10.000 and 7.000 respectively.
