Egyptian Startup Beach Safer Competes Globally At Imagine Cup 2018

The startup is flying off to Seattle to compete for a cash prize of up to $100,000, and the chance to take home the Imagine Cup.

Egypt's "Beach Safer" along with two other winning teams, representing Pakistan and Turkey, will jet off on a trip to the World Final taking place in Seattle, USA from 23rd to 25th July. Microsoft has announced the winners of the Middle East and Africa Regional Final of the Imagine Cup 2018.  They will compete with teams from across the globe for the title of World Champion with a cash prize of up to $100,000, and the chance to take home the Imagine Cup.

Whittled down from seven thousand applicants across the region, six teams from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey competed in the Regional Final. This round of the Imagine Cup took the form of an online competition, in which each team’s submission was judged based on its innovation capacity, technology level, feasibility, and concept. 

"At Microsoft we are of the belief that the youth of today shape the future of a country, and we want to ensure that irrespective of their background, talented youth in Egypt get the support that they require in order to fulfill their dreams," says Khaled Abd El Kader, the general manager of Microsoft Egypt. "The quality of entries this year was remarkable, which is a clear indicator that technology students in Egypt are not only keeping pace with their international counterparts, but they are in a variety of ways spearheading technological innovation in the country, and now in Redmond."

Engineering and Innovation Director at Microsoft Middle East and Africa, Mik Chernomordikov finds it great to see how students and new technologies meet to "Code with a Purpose" and help the world to become a better place. "Being one of the judges at the Regional Final, I was happy to see great ideas, new technologies, and real problems solved by students across the region," says Chernomordikov. "Imagine Cup is the biggest global technology student competition, and I wish the winning teams good luck at the upcoming World Final and on making their current projects successful products in the future."
