Microsoft has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with E-tax, an Egyptian company working in cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Finance, and E-Finance, an Egyptian developer of digital payments infrastructures.

“The pandemic has proven that digital transformation is the only way towards achieving sustainable business and services,” Mirna Aref, General Manager at Microsoft in Egypt, said. “We, at Microsoft, feel proud that we are contributing to the great efforts of the Egyptian government to achieve digital transformation in all fields- we hope that this partnership would be the beginning of more collaborative efforts in this field, as Microsoft will contribute to building capabilities related to the services it provides, in addition to connecting E-Tax with our tax partners.”

The memorandum will further assist Egypt’s digital transformation through the utilisation of AI techniques to create digital solutions for Egyptian tax systems. The end result should work towards a more financially inclusive Egypt that provides financial electronic services supported by modern technology.

E-Tax will then be able to enhance its role in developing the basic capabilities necessary for digital transformation for the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA), specifically in areas of electronic invoice service providers and smart business reports in the areas of tax and tax fraud. This will, in turn, create an e-system that can help intelligence technologies develop an accurate profile for each taxpayer, eventually resulting in remarkable growth in tax and customs revenues.
