UAE Launches a Coronavirus Tracking App
The Abu Dhabi Department of Health has rolled out the TraceCovid app, an app using tracing software to help curb the COVID-19 outbreak in the UAE.
The UAE just launched TraceCovid, a Coronavirus-tracking app that’s able to detect nearby users via Bluetooth through an encrypted Secure Tracing identifier and the data will then be stored on the app. The Secure Tracing identifier will include a compiled database of all persons you’ve come in close contact with, and will notify the user if any of them have tested positive for COVID-19, regardless if you know the person or not.
The UAE is now one of the few countries that have developed their own contact tracing app, along with China and Singapore. The app is meant to curb the COVID-19 outbreak as much as possible, and provide the necessary healthcare and quarantine advisories for those reported to be infected with Coronavirus.
Tech giants Apple and Google have also recently partnered to develop a COVID-19 contact tracing technology to combat the virus. Additionally, in support of public health initiatives such UAE’S TraceCovid, they have announced that both of their major operating systems - iOS and Android- will be enabled for interoperability, so all devices are equipped for the tracking system.
