New Digital Environmental Registry Launched for Factories in Egypt
A unified digital environmental registry has been introduced for industrial facilities to monitor emissions, energy use and export-related carbon data.
A unified digital environmental registry for industrial facilities has been launched in Egypt, introducing a single online platform designed to collect and monitor factory-level environmental and industrial data.
The system will record information related to emissions, fuel consumption, water and energy use, waste management and export-linked data associated with the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
According to the Ministry of Local Development and Environment, the platform is intended to create a national environmental database for industrial facilities while linking government agencies through a unified digital interface.
Participating entities include the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, the Ministry of Industry, the Industrial Development Authority and the Ministry of Electricity.
Minister of Local Development Manal Awad said the platform is designed to simplify registration and reporting procedures for industrial facilities while supporting the preparation of detailed reports on fuel consumption across sectors.
The ministry stated that the system will also help authorities identify non-compliant facilities and monitor emissions reductions linked to environmental compliance plans.
The registry is designed to calculate and track several forms of carbon emissions, including direct emissions from fuel consumption and industrial processes, indirect emissions from electricity usage and embedded emissions associated with exported products.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem said the platform represents a step toward accelerating the green transition within the industrial sector and improving the competitiveness of exports amid increasing international carbon reduction requirements.
