Saudi Arabia-based data centre company DataVolt has secured $150 million in financing to develop a 12MW data centre in Uzbekistan, marking the first phase of a wider digital infrastructure push in the country.

Known as TAS-1, the facility is being built in Tashkent with backing from the German Investment and Development Company, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development and Proparco. Construction began in May 2024, and the site is scheduled to become operational in late 2026.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Digital Technologies has described TAS-1 as the initial stage of a larger development programme. According to the ministry, the project is fully funded through foreign direct investment valued at $150 million, with plans for a foreign partner to invest a further $5 billion by 2030 in two additional 250MW data centres.

As part of the expansion plans, DataVolt signed a memorandum of understanding with Beeline Uzbekistan, which could become a major tenant at the Tashkent facility. A separate agreement establishes a framework for evaluating the joint development and operation of a potential data centre in Bukhara.

Founded in 2023, DataVolt is wholly owned by Vision Invest, the Saudi infrastructure investment company behind projects across the energy and utilities sectors. Several members of DataVolt's leadership team previously held senior roles at ACWA Power, which is also owned by Vision Invest.
