Partnerships between universities and entrepreneurship support bodies are expanding in Egypt, with new initiatives linking students to funding, training, and business development services.

At Cairo University’s Faculty of Mass Communication, a student-led initiative called Rokaz has drawn the attention of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency. The project focuses on promoting self-employment and highlighting the role of small and micro enterprises in productive sectors.

MSMEDA said it is increasing coordination with universities in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to encourage graduates to establish businesses that contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development.

The cooperation forms part of a broader strategy to build youth capacity, support innovative ideas, and strengthen the competitiveness of locally manufactured products. Officials said the approach also aims to promote a shift towards domestic production capable of generating sustainable employment.

Collaboration between MSMEDA and academic institutions has expanded through approximately 25 cooperation protocols with universities across multiple governorates, in coordination with the Supreme Council of Universities. These agreements are designed to integrate entrepreneurship concepts into academic programmes.

The agency has also taken part in practical training initiatives aimed at bridging academic learning with real-world applications. These include participation in an entrepreneurship-focused simulation event at the Culture and Science City, as well as a specialised forum organised by Senghor University, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and ICEALEX under the theme ‘The Future Belongs to Africa 2026’.

Additional programmes include technical training, awareness seminars, and a Business Simulation Game developed in cooperation with Ain Shams University, targeting final-year students preparing to enter the workforce.
