American Edu-Tech Startup Duolingo Launches Arabic Language Courses
After several months in development, Duolingo expands its language learning service to teach Arabic to non-native speakers.
US-based multi-national language learning app Duolingo revealed today that Arabic is now amongst its extensive list of language courses available via the company’s app and website. The company stated that Arabic was one of the most-requested languages to be added, with around 2,000 learners on the first day of its launch. The language course is still in its beta-testing period and not yet in stable status, giving much room for feedback and improvement.
Teaching Arabic is not easy due to a variety of reasons; a plethora of dialects available being one of them. Users will be learning a less formal spoken version of Modern Standard Arabic, which can be used in conversation with the widest range of Arabic speakers. Learners will be able to work through three sections that cover grammar, the Arabic alphabet and most importantly, phonetic exercises to support non-native Arabic speakers with the pronunciation of Arabic letters and words.
Duolingo already teaches some of the most widely spoken languages in the world, including Chinese, Hindi, Russian, French and German. All of Duolingo’s language courses are free, so anyone can start without paying a cent. However, the platform does have an ad-free premium subscription service for $6.99 per month.
