Sigma Fit, an Egypt-based startup focusing on tech-wearables, was selected as one of the top 50 startups in Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) competition this year.  The startup was chosen from a pool of 21,000 applicants from across 54 African countries.

The ABH competition is a flagship philanthropic programme established by the Jack Ma Foundation to identify and support impactful entrepreneurs across the continent.  The competition awards a pool of $1.5 million in grant money to 10 finalists who are working to solve critical issues in their local communities and who demonstrate values such as resilience, innovation and leadership.

“We are proud of being one of the top 50 finalists in this competition,” Omar El Metwally, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Sigma Fit, tells StartupScene. “Sigma Fit always strives to take our technologies to a whole new level to provide the market with the best tech wears that would change people’s lives for the better by enhancing their performances and giving them maximum functionality and comfort. We believe that the sky is our limit, so this achievement motivates us to bring more innovations to the market.”

Founded in 2017 by Omar El Metwally, Islam Rashwan and Nabil Khalifa, Sigma Fit is a unique startup in the MENA region that uses hydrophobic technologies, ultra-violet rays, and ozone in its techwear to bring sportswear to the next level. Since its launch, Sigma Fit has received numerous awards and recognitions. It was named one of the top 10 businesses worldwide at the 2020 edition Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the world's biggest tech trade show, where it showcased its revolutionary Transforma X Smart Bag.

The startup has also partnered with Chicago Sports and Social Club to provide techwear to over 100,000 club members. More recently, it used its technology during the pandemic to create Egypt’s first state-sanctioned, fully-protective suit for medical personnel in COVID-19 isolation hospitals.
