New Amazon Data Centres Opened in UAE
Amazon’s second Middle East data infrastructure centre, after its expansion into Bahrain in 2019, hops to attract tech investments.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that its cloud service unit will be launching three new data centers in the UAE, to launch in early 2022. It becomes Amazon’s second Middle Eastern data centre, after the first was established in Bahrain, 2019.
The new centers will allow the web giant to expand its data storage services reach to be able to encompass public and private enterprises, educational institutions, and startups. All these entities have notably witnessed increased demand for cloud solutions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senior Vice President of AWS Global Infrastructure Peter DeSantis said: "We are excited to build on the great momentum of cloud adoption in the Middle East by providing more choice for customers in the UAE to run applications and store data locally.”
The deal with Amazon is part of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office’s (ADIO) initiatives to further attract tech-centric investments that accelerate innovation and strengthen technology capabilities.
