Pilot Phase for 'E-Gov Wallet' Launches in Morocco
Announced at AI Made in Morocco, the phased e-government programme aims to modernise digital public services and bolster digital sovereignty via a controlled regional pilot.
Morocco has launched a pilot phase of its E-Gov Wallet as part of efforts to modernise public services and test new digital government infrastructure before wider deployment.
The initiative was formalised on January 12th, 2026, through an agreement between the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform and La Marocaine Électronique des E-Services. The pilot was unveiled in Rabat during the national ‘AI Made in Morocco’ event and will be rolled out in a controlled setting across the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
According to the ministry, the pilot phase is designed to evaluate the wallet’s technical performance, security standards, regulatory compliance and levels of user adoption. The results will inform decisions on whether and how the system could be expanded nationally.
The E-Gov Wallet forms part of a phased approach to e-government reform, aimed at improving the quality, accessibility and reliability of public services while strengthening trust in digital platforms. Officials have framed the project as a step towards reinforcing Morocco’s digital sovereignty by testing locally governed digital solutions before scaling.
No timeline has been announced for a nationwide rollout, with further phases expected to depend on the outcomes of the pilot programme.
