Injaz And US Embassy Announce The Launch Of Startup Egypt 2019

Under the sponsorship of the US Embassy, Injaz Egypt launched their Startup Egypt programme for 2019 at the AUC Falaki theatre on Tuesday, November 24th.

Startup Egypt is an incubation programme that helps young entrepreneurs get their startups to be business-ready and transform their ideas into successful and innovative businesses through an intensive programme which exposes them to a big network of mentors and ensure that they register their enterprises and receive a seed funding.

The programme accepts enthusiastic graduates from any field of study and from anywhere in Egypt. CEO of Injaz Egypt Dina El-Mofty expressed her pride in the fact that since the programme started in 2011, it has impacted more than 62 startups, most of which, at first, came to Injaz with only an idea. Through intensive mentorship and training, it has helped bring young successful entrepreneurs to the business world in Egypt. One of their notable alumni is Abdelhameed Sharara, CEO and founder of RiseUp Summit, who had joined Startup Egypt when he was still in school. Other notable alumni include Yassin Abdel-Ghaffar, founder of Solarize Egypt and Mostafa Hemdan, founder of Recyclobekia.

Dorothy Shea, acting charge d'affaires of US Embassy,  said that they chose to hold that event in November because that is when the world celebrates the Global Entrepreneurship Week. She encouraged attendees to take risks and not to be afraid of the fear of failure. She expressed her excitement to the launch of the programme and emphasized that the embassy believes in entrepreneurship and in young entrepreneurs.

The event also featured young entrepreneurs, Mustafa Sharara, CEO and founder of Excuse My Content, and Stafford Sheehan, an American entrepreneur who was featured in Forbes’ 2016 30 under 30. Both speakers talked about their journey with the audience and shared their tips on how to start up a company as young entrepreneurs.

Being an Injaz alumnus himself, Sharara expressed his absolute enthusiasm to be at the event this time as a speaker, not as an attendee. Having studied pharmacy as an undergraduate student, he said that Injaz has helped him pursue his passion in media and gave him the business background that he needed to kick-off his startup. “Injaz is my family. I joined them back in 2012 and they have helped me in many ways whether financially or even with resources and moral support. I am really happy that they are able to continue all what they have been doing,” Sharara tells Startup Scene.
