More and more innovative ways of combating Coronavirus are emerging across the world, and due to the highly contagious nature of the virus, taking humans out of the equation is key. While telemedicine takes off across the world for this very reason, Moroccan startup Farasha System takes this notion further, deploying their fleet of drones in the airspace above Rabat, to spray disinfecting materials in public areas and onto buildings across the capital. “To fight the spread of COVID-19, we decided to deploy our drones, our knowledge, and our technology for the benefit of local authorities to disinfect public places,” says Farasha Systems founder Abderahman Kriouile.

Rigged with four nozzles and a tank of disinfectant, the Coronavirus fighting drones are able to cover a large surface area without any human intervention on the ground. Civilian drones are usually illegal in Morocco, but Farasha Systems has teamed up with the local government to make an exception for disinfecting drones.

The disinfecting drones are an adaptation of an existing model produced by Farsha Systems, but as Kriouile explained in an interview with AFP, the company will be establishing a manufacturing unit dedicated to creating a specialised drone for this purpose. Farasha Systems has also unveiled a thermal drone which can sense human body temperatures from afar.
